Blessing the Mother

This is a powerful ceremony that has been practiced in variation by all of our female ancestors. The concept of the Mother Blessing that has been assimilated into the birth world was appropriated from the ancient Navajo ceremony, Hózhójí, which translates roughly to “Blessingway.” We want to acknowledge the neocolonialism present in the appropriation of this sacred Navajo (Diné) ceremony. We highly recommend learning more about the history of the ceremony here: Lamaze , American Indian Healing Arts , Leland C. Wyman

This is a gathering of the sacred circle of support for the birthing woman. It provides an opportunity to shower the mother in love, support and blessings for her upcoming birth.

We can create the day together and it could include -

Meditation, crafting, blessings, songs, ceremonial washing of the mothers feet, a special gift for the mother created by those gathered to remind her of their connections and blessings.

Closing the Circle of Birth

A gentle and nourishing ritual supporting and comforting women who have given birth both recently and years ago.

In South America, where the ceremony originated, ‘Closing the Bones’ is performed within hours of women giving birth. Outside of S.A. it will commonly take place within the first few weeks of birth, but can happen any time after the baby is born - even years later.

As it’s known to be such a beneficial part of the recovery process, in most cases there’s no reason to wait. And it can often be repeated 5 or 6 times in the first forty sacred days after giving birth.

Women open themselves up ‘energetically’ during pregnancy and birth, after which they need to come back to themselves. And this is a Ritual to support the closing of this energetic portal to ensure all parts of the Mother are present and vital for the next phase of the journey.

Welcome to Womanhood

Imagine a young woman stepping Ito womanhood with pride, confidence and a powerful connection to her inner knowing. Feeling supported, seen and acknowledge by the community around her. What kind of world would this be if all young women were received through this passage in this way.

Together we can co-create a ritual of ceremony, thoughtful reflection and celebration to welcome our daughters into womanhood in a good way.
